Therapeutic Ultrasound

Uses a form of mechanical energy, typically between 1.0 and 3.0 MHz that is passed to injured tissues in the body.  The energy absorption by the different tissues has many therapeutic effects including speeding the rate of healing and improving the quality of the repair.

Low level laser therapy

Low level laser therapy (LLLT) is a light source treatment that generates a wavelength of light between 660 nm and 905 nm and that affects the function of cells involved in healing (fibroblasts), speeding up the rate of tissue repair after injury, and acting as an anti-inflammatory agent.  Thus laser is typically added to treatments to help:

  1. Reduce inflammation

  2. Speed up tissue repair and regeneration

  3. Reduce pain

Shockwave therapy

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy uses pulsed soundwaves to promote new blood vessel formation (neovascularization), strengthen tendons, facilitate bone growth and repair, encourage immune cell movement to injured areas and improve both growth factor and protein synthesis.  As a result, shockwave therapy is commonly used to treat:

Shoulder conditions including frozen shoulder and calcific tendinopathy

  1. Tennis/golfer’s elbow

  2. Plantar fasciitis

  3. Shoulder conditions including frozen shoulder and calcific tendinopathy

  4. Arthritis

  5. Achilles tendonitis

  6. Patellar tendinopathy

  7. Shin splints

  8. Non-union of long bone fractures

Orthotics

Custom foot orthotics are devices you wear in your shoe that are made from an electronic scan of a foam cast  of your feet and after an assessment of your biomechanical and gait patterns.  The orthotics will correct biomechanical foot issues with how you walk, stand or run.  They can provide help with foot pain caused by many conditions including:

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Arthritis and heel spurs

  • Bunions and hammer toes

  • Flat feet (pes planus)

  • Over pronation/supination

  • Knee pain/arthritis

  • Low back and hip pain

  • Diabetic foot complications

Bracing

Different types of braces and splints can help immobilize and protect joints, reduce pain levels, limit swelling and help facilitate the healing process.  Common injuries that are often prescribed braces/splints include:

  1. Knee braces for conditions including ligamentous injuries and arthritis

  2. Elbow splints for golfer’s and tennis elbow

  3. Ankle braces for sprains and injury prevention

  4. Wrist and hand braces for carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, de Quervain tenosynovitis

Spinal Stenosis Bootcamp

The incidence of lumbar spinal stenosis is growing rapidly and is the leading cause of pain, difficulty with walking, loss of independence and spinal surgery in older adults.  The Spinal Stenosis Boot Camp program is a proven non-surgical treatment program designed to improve the quality of life and maintain independence in patients with LSS.  The six week program uses hands-on care combined with special exercises, body positioning techniques and self-management strategies to reduce the pressure on compressed nerves and improve walking and standing.

Hip and Knee Arthritis Programs (GLA:D)

GLA:DTM Canada is an 8-week exercise and education program designed for patients with hip or knee arthritis that are suffering with stiffness and/or pain.  People that have completed the program report less pain, better quality of life, less dependence on pain killers and being more physically active.

Kinesiotaping

Kinesiotape is an elastic therapeutic tape that is latex-free, hypoallergenic and that can be worn for several days at a time.  The tape is specifically applied to the patient based upon their specific needs after a thorough evaluation.  Depending on the type of application, kinesiotape can help re-educate the neuromuscular system, improve muscle function, reduce swelling and pain and prevent injury.
